Doode, Sweet

Al-Qaeda is claiming responsibility for an attack on a Saudi oil refinery. Let the jackals feast on the entrails of their own young for a change, to put it in the vernacular.

Social Darwinism At Work?

Or just future winners of the Darwin Awards?

I'll die first, pick me, pick me!

Either way, they can’t go fast damned enough. If only they’d stick to the big ’splodey test ranges or the cemetaries they like to party in, instead of spreading their disgusting philosophies in action.

People Unclear On The Concept

I would like to believe that this isn’t merely another example of unthinking and overblown Arabic rhetoric and that someone in a position of public trust like Imam el-Tamimi understands the purpose of those machines that go *ping* but I wouldn’t bet ya money on it:

“…life support equipment will not be switched off ‘as long as there is warmth and life in his body,’ senior Islamic cleric Tayssir el-Tamimi.”

Um, yeah, way to go Imam-dude - way to make yourself as a representative of both Islam and the Palestinian people sound like a real edjumacated man. Word up - that bullshit doublespeak that works in the Arabic press doesn’t always work in the rest of the world. We know Arafat is dead. We know he’s been clinically dead since the day of our national election and that the only reason there’s warmth and life in his body is because of those tubes and that machine that goes *ping* and because of the political wrangling yet to come about his burial place and because of the logistics entailed in getting his cooling body into the ground within 24 hours of pulling the plug. Soon the machine that goes *ping* will go *beep* and we can only hope that the Palestinian people will be better served by their next leader, a leader who actually cares for them, not just for shoring up his cult of personality.

An Insult To Hill People Everywhere

Not only is she proud and supported by the folks back home in her treatment of Iraqi prisoners, but her fiancee is a real gentleman too.

The Grand Poobah (heretofore referred to as TGP):

Aha! So that’s the American strategy! Ship off all our dumb people overseas. So how come we still have so many morons over here?

Me:

Well, UPS and FedEx only accept packages of a certain size, and apparently it’s illegal to ship people in those big crates, so there’s a bottleneck at the ports.

TGP:

How about we just fire them across the Pacific from giant cannons?

Me:

Um, ozone. Global warming. Hurts the dolphins’ ears.

TGP:

Not if we fire them high enough. (Ed. note: He likes to play with ’splodey bits, so he’d know.)

Me:

Like, from airplanes? ‘Cuz otherwise it would still hurt the dolphins’ ears - sound at ground level travels through water as well.

Apparently I’m not only sympathetic to the plight of the hill people vis-a-vis their tarnished public image, but I’m also dolphin-ear-expert chick. The solution to the problem of America’s morons remains unfound, but our quest for answers continues. Maybe we should consult with Aquaman.

The Banality Of Evil

They never mentioned the function of minders. Never mentioned terror.

In one case, a correspondent actually went to the Internet Center at the Al-Rashid Hotel and printed out copies of his and other people’s stories — mine included — specifically in order to be able to show the difference between himself and the others. He wanted to show what a good boy he was compared to this enemy of the state.

This has been floating around various political and warblogs - I believe I tracked it down on Winds of Change - but I’m not sure how many people are really paying attention to to what our trusted media feeds have been feeding us. Living with compromise every day and going along to get along, to protect your sources, are a far cry from putting your hands over your eyes to see no evil, over your ears to hear no evil, and finally over your mouth, to bear no witness to evil. I’m still stuck in my reaction to this - sickened by it - and don’t have much coherent and non-pontificatish to say besides that the shit’s just wrong, so I’ll leave you with this old Arabic proverb: “If you live with someone for forty days, you become like him.”

Why We’re There

Thanks to USS Clueless for once again putting it so well (via Winds of Change).

And to those past who would lie with the truth as CNN has attempted to do in present-day Iraq, I pass along a statement of support for the campaign to revoke Walter Duranty’s Pulitzer prize - my thanks to Dean Esmay for posting Don Pesci’s Famine, Lies and Justice.

Bringing It On Home

Thanks to Calpundit for this info dump on Pat Robertson (insert shivery ice-fly creepies skittering up my spine here). Just goes to show ya, anytime someone says “But I love him” or “God told me so” it’s time to back away quickly, grab the Glock, and put ‘em down. For the good of the many and the good of the one. Really, it’d be a mercy killing.

Poor Long-Term Memory

Lebanon’s ‘A-Team of terrorists’ are valued for social services. I know that just sounds wrong, but it’s called winning hearts and minds. Not exactly an original concept.
