My dear, I believe you think too much. Or rather, you wait too long before writing anything, even if it's only on a piece of toilet paper. It's been my experience that the first version of an idea is always the most fascinating, if not best formulated. The problem is that if you wait until after polishing's done, usually that first (muse given) inspiration has been jumbled up and sometimes, I fear, forgotten. Try this: when you get an idea, write it down right away, even if on paper it looks like words bundled together in lines that would make a third grade grammer school teacher cry. Then as soon as you're done, take that bundle, fill in some blanks, give it some structure, until you have a crude text. After that, put the paper aside and start your usual perfectionist brooding. From then on, everytime you feel your mind has wandered and that there are things you've forgotten, well, you got the original handy.
Now wish me luck as I try to take my own advice.
