Bikes Fall Down Go Boom

Just a post to tell all three of you readers out there who currently ride or intend to ride a motorcycle in the future that I send you warm fuzzy hugs and safety vibes… I was tooling down the 101 on my way back from Santa Barbara this afternoon (just HAD to go eat ice cream on Stearn’s Wharf with my buddy Doe ‘cuz it was so purty out here in SoCal and I needed the ocean’s negative ions to soothe my soul) when we came upon an accident scene. I saw three people down on the ground in a bad way and lots of torn up motorcycles, and only one or two CHP cruisers had responded at that point – no paramedics or ambulances yet – so I stopped to help… thank god, long story short, nobody died, but I am soaking a couple of blankets in cold water to get out the bloodstains right now. Only damned thing any of us could do was keep folks warm and talking while we waited for the paramedics and ambulance crews to get them to the hospital – one guy got medevaced out, and lemme tell ya (in case you forgot like I did) no matter how much the helicopter looks like it’s gonna land on your car and “hey doesn’t it look neato from this angle,” don’t watch as it descends. Your contact lenses won’t thank you. The other two, a husband and wife named Ed and Judy from Simi Valley, were taken away in ambulances. Again, all should be fine and dandy, thank the chopper hog gods or whomever the patron deity of Harley Davison is. I say a couple of prayers for those folks – both that nobody died outright and that all of them will heal cleanly and with a minimum of further pain and suffering. I’m not even gonna get into what the poor bikes looked like.
